The Sunshine Review Wikiteer award is one of nine Sammies' awards given annually by the Sam Adams Alliance. The 2009 awards will be presented on Saturday, April 18th, 2009. The entry deadline is Friday, March 20.
Put on by the Sam Adams Alliance, the Sammies is a contest awarding $40,000 - divided among nine different categories - to exceptional activists who live by Adams' notion that, "all might be free if they valued freedom, and defended it as they ought."

Congratulations to the 2009 winner Fred Baldwin for his work on the Pennsylvania public school overview project. We are proud of all the content he has produced and organized.

The nine award categories in the Sammies include awards for:
- Bloggers
- Filmmakers
- Open records champions
- Microbloggers
- Wiki Writers
- Grassroot Activists
- Other government watchdogs committed to liberty.
[edit] About the Wikiteer Award
This year the Sammies honor wiki writers with...<drumroll please>...the Wikiteer Award! There are three different Wikiteer awards, one for each of the wikis sponsored by the Sam Adams Alliance:
The winners of the three different Wikiteer awards will each receive a cash prize of $1,000. According to the Sammies' website, each winner will also receive "...a smashingly-handsome golden Sammy ... and ... will be flown to Chicago to be recognized at the 2nd Annual Sammies Award Show, a red-carpet affair scheduled for April 18, 2009."

So, what does that mean for all you Sunshine Review writers? Well, if you're interested in the 1K, you'll want to strive for the following:
- Quantity: high amount of wiki pages created/edited
- Accuracy: creation of error-free pages, fixing existing errors, and correct category use
- Comprehensiveness: contributions that help make the wiki authoritative (i.e. adding internal/external links, images, tables, graphs, etc.)
- Topical: concentrating on a particular issue and going with it, owning it
- Action: taking the next step (i.e. blogging or otherwise publicizing county/state transparency or lack thereof)
