Order Amidst the Chaos Project

WikiProject Order Amidst the Chaos is the project page for those of us who like to keep things neat and clean (perhaps because we are off our meds) can come to make lists and cross things off lists.

If you want to be part of the project, please add the template you see displayed in the upper-right corner of this page to your user page. Then I'll know that you, too, want to be part of the team that makes templates, keeps track of whether standardized upgrades have been made to sets of articles, re-arranges categories, add templates to pages and so on.

[edit] County templates

All of the county templates are complete. Add {{templates by state}} to your user page or to your user project page if you want quick-and-easy access to any of these templates, simply by clicking on the link for the appropriate state.

[edit] County article standardization

Note: Once a particular change has been made for all fifty states, the subsection below that describes that change can be deleted right off this page. Won't that be fun?

[edit] Wikipedia entry

The Wikipedia template adds value to county articles by allowing the reader to easily see a way to click into Wikipedia's article about the county in question, which often has a variety of interesting facts about the county, such as demographic information and its latitude/longitude.

The Wikipedia template can be typed in two ways:

  • The simplest way is to just type: {{wikipedia entry}}.
  • If you want to be more elaborate, you can type: {{wikipedia entry|Shelby County, Alabama|Shelby County}}. If you do this, "Shelby County" will appear on your page, rather than "Shelby County, Alabama".
  • Note that typing {{wikipedia entry}} by itself only works if there is an article on Wikipedia with the identical name as your article on Sunshine Review. You can still use the template if there is an article on Wikipedia to which you wish to direct your readers. But, if so, you must use the pipe technique described above for Shelby County. If you use this technique, you can direct your readers to any page on Wikipedia. For example, if your article is about Shelby County, Alabama and you want to tell your readers that Wikipedia has an article about Six Flags, Alabama, you can do that using the technique described above.

We advise installing the template right under the "external links" section, like this:

==External links==
{{wikipedia entry}}

It should eventually be added to:

Delete states from this list when all counties/articles have had the template installed: Illinois counties (up to Logan county) | Louisiana parishes (up to Rapides county)| Maryland counties | Mississippi counties | North Dakota counties | South Dakota counties

[edit] TOC nest right template

This template is typed as {{TOCnestright}}

It is added at the beginning of an article. It should be added to:

  • Every individual county article (all 3,140 of them).
  • Every article about a state's counties (all 50 of these articles).

Delete states from this list when all counties/articles in the state have had the template installed: Mississippi counties | Montana counties | New York counties | North Carolina counties | North Dakota counties | Oklahoma counties | Pennsylvania counties | South Carolina counties | South Dakota counties | Texas counties | Vermont counties | Virginia counties | West Virginia counties | Wisconsin counties

[edit] "Official website"

The standard way to link to a county's official website in an "external links" section on Sunshine Review is like this:

In other words, the description should refer to "official website" as opposed to just "website" or "Shelby County".

This change should be made, if needed, on the articles for:

Delete states from this list when all counties/articles in the state have had this language installed:

Arkansas counties | California counties | Colorado counties | Connecticut counties | Delaware counties | Florida counties | Georgia counties | Hawaii counties | Idaho counties | Illinois counties | Indiana counties | Kansas counties | Kentucky counties | Louisiana parishes | Maine counties | Maryland counties | Massachusetts counties | Michigan counties | Minnesota counties | Mississippi counties | Missouri counties | Montana counties | Nebraska counties | Nevada counties | New Hampshire counties | New Jersey counties | New Mexico counties | New York counties | North Carolina counties | North Dakota counties | Ohio counties | Oklahoma counties | Oregon counties | Pennsylvania counties | Rhode Island counties | South Carolina counties | South Dakota counties | Tennessee counties | Texas counties | Utah counties | Vermont counties | Virginia counties | West Virginia counties | Wisconsin counties | Wyoming counties

[edit] More external links

Some contributors are systematically adding additional external links to county articles in order to add value to the article by directing readers to additional useful websites about the counties.

Delete states from this list when all counties/articles in the state have had this change made:

Alabama counties | Alaska counties | Arizona counties | Arkansas counties | California counties | Colorado counties | Connecticut counties | Delaware counties | Florida counties | Georgia counties | North Carolina counties | North Dakota counties | Ohio counties | Oklahoma counties | Oregon counties | Pennsylvania counties | Rhode Island counties | South Carolina counties | South Dakota counties | Texas counties | Utah counties | Vermont counties | Virginia counties | Washington counties | West Virginia counties | Wisconsin counties | Wyoming counties

[edit] TFLAs

Each website evaluation on a county article such as Sacramento County, California is supposed to say whether or not the county is a member of taxpayer-funded lobbying associations.

If all the article says is that the county "doesn't disclose lobbying" or something vague like, the article needs to be upgraded to specifically wiki-link to the [[TFLAs in that state.

For example:

Strike states from this list when all counties/articles in the state have had this change made:

Alabama counties | Alaska counties | Arizona counties | Arkansas counties | California counties | Colorado counties | Connecticut counties | Delaware counties | Florida counties | Georgia counties | Hawaii counties | Idaho counties | Illinois counties | Indiana counties | Iowa counties | Kansas counties | Kentucky counties | Louisiana parishes | Maine counties | Maryland counties | Massachusetts counties | Michigan counties | Minnesota counties | Mississippi counties | Missouri counties | Montana counties | Nebraska counties | Nevada counties | New Hampshire counties | New Jersey counties | New Mexico counties | New York counties | North Carolina counties | North Dakota counties | Ohio counties | Oklahoma counties | Oregon counties | Pennsylvania counties | Rhode Island counties | South Carolina counties | South Dakota counties | Tennessee counties | Texas counties | Utah counties | Vermont counties | Virginia counties | Washington counties | West Virginia counties | Wisconsin counties | Wyoming counties

[edit] County seats

This is a new project to fill in a starter article for the township or city that is the county seat for each of the 3,140 counties.

The ingredients of a complete "county seat" starter article are:

  • A sentence or two that identifies the municipality, mentions that it is the county seat of whatever county, and wiki-links back to that county.
  • The template for the state, such as {{alabama}}
  • Two category designations, [[Category:Alabama cities]] and [[Category:Starter class Alabama cities]].
  • The "discussion" or "talk" page for that article should have added to it the WikiProject template for that state.
  • All those WikiProject templates are identical except for the name of the state. They should say {{WikiProject Alabama}}, etc.

Note: In some states, the articles for the county do not list the county seat. In that case, the extra work will need to be done to add that sentence identifying the county seat.

Delete states from this list when all county articles (3,140 of them) have had a county seat article started:

Alabama counties | Alaska counties | California counties | Colorado counties | Georgia counties | Idaho counties | Illinois counties | Indiana counties | Iowa counties | Kansas counties | Kentucky counties | Louisiana parishes | Maine counties | Maryland counties | Massachusetts counties | Michigan counties | Minnesota counties | Mississippi counties | Missouri counties | Montana counties | Nebraska counties | Nevada counties | New Hampshire counties | New Jersey counties | New Mexico counties | New York counties | North Carolina counties | North Dakota counties | Ohio counties | Oklahoma counties | Oregon counties | Pennsylvania counties | Rhode Island counties | South Carolina counties | South Dakota counties | Tennessee counties | Texas counties | Utah counties | Vermont counties | Virginia counties | Washington counties | West Virginia counties | Wisconsin counties | Wyoming counties

[edit] Eval section on main article

For each state, the main article about its counties should include a section called "County website evaluations" as in this example: Alabama counties and Arizona counties. There are 50 articles where this change needs to be made.

Delete states from this list when the change has been made:

Kansas counties | Kentucky counties | Maine counties | Maryland counties | Michigan counties | Minnesota counties | Mississippi counties | Missouri counties | Montana counties | Nebraska counties | Nevada counties | New Hampshire counties | New Jersey counties | New Mexico counties | New York counties | North Carolina counties | North Dakota counties | Ohio counties | Oklahoma counties | Oregon counties | Pennsylvania counties | South Carolina counties | South Dakota counties | Vermont counties | West Virginia counties | Wyoming counties
