Tammy Thomas is a member of the De Soto school board, position 6. Elected in 2009, Thomas is a community activist, and has volunteered with De Soto schools, charitable organizations, and hospital.

Thomas takes an "ABC" approach to outlining her goals if elected:[1]

  • Accountability

We must know where each dollar is going and whether the usage of that dollar is effective. Are our programs doing the job they were intended to do? Not only will this promote financial efficiency, it will ensure that we are meeting our primary interest as a school district -- the education of children.

  • Budgeting

In the current economy and strains on revenue, we must establish a common-sense approach to budgeting. This means examining if the money being spent is going towards the education of children. Each dollar must be justified.

  • Commitment

As an elected member of the School Board, I will bring a deep commitment to teachers, parents, taxpayers and, most of all, our children. Every decision we made must take each into account, and I pledge to bring that principle to the job.

[edit] Election results

Facing incumbent Larry Meyer and Tim Needham in the general election on April 7, 2009, Thomas received 1,161 votes (50%), winning by 259.
