Established in 1969 as a non-political service organization, the Texas Association of Counties functions to keep county officials informed about state laws affecting them, as well as to provide information concerning county government. [2] The mission of the Texas Association of Counties is "to unite counties to achieve better solutions." [3] Since their inception, the Texas Association of County Officials has evolved to represent the ever-expanding needs of individual counties. JD Johnson is the current president of the association, in addition to his position as commissioner of Tarrant County. At its inception, the association functioned with only six employees, but since has grown to include more than 130 employees. Legislative Issues is the official publication of the Texas Association of Counties and is put together by the TAC legislative staff.
