[edit] Uphold Public’s Right to Know
"One of the founding principles of our great nation is the public's right to know about the workings of their local, state and federal governments. Legislators in West Virginia would do well to remember that as they go about doing the public's business during the remainder of the 2009 legislative session.
Already this session, several lawmakers have co-sponsored a bill - Senate Bill 252 - that would limit the availability of public information about the internal workings and safeguards that exist in the state's regional jail system.
According to the bill, information concerning the "operation, staffing, equipping or escape and emergency contingency plans relating to any jail or correctional facility" would be "exempt from disclosure ... under the Freedom of Information Act."
