I read this article today: CASD project leads the way. Nice work! I've been meaning to mention how much I like the pages on school board transparency that you have built - they are really clear explanations of what can be a confusing subject. Thanks! Maverick 10:34, 12 January 2009 (CST)
- Maverick -- Thanks for the kind words. But how did you find that editorial in the Carlisle Sentinel about our district's transparency project? (By the way, we got better press than we deserve yet, but at least we're trying.)

Hi Fred,
I noticed that you are interested in some of the more advanced wiki formatting tools available, such as building tables. The best way I can recommend to learn those things is to explore the wiki, and when you find a page with a feature you like, examining it in "edit" mode. Often, you can figure out enough just by poking around while editing and using the preview feature. If you have more questions though, your best bet is to look at the history of good looking pages, see who made the edits you like, and asking them about it on their talk (discussion) pages.
Here is a page with some fairly simple tables to get you going: county website project. Hope this helps! Maverick 22:01, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
- Maverick -- Thanks both for your note and your advice. I'll get the hang of this wiki coding soon, I suppose. My three posts so far, two of which I forgot to sign, are part of a project to bring more transparency to the process of school board-union negotiations. See my blog for details. [1] I'm impressed by your FOIA work (and by your derby stuff). The word "maverick" may have been overworked lately, but if you don't happen to know how it took on its present meaning, I can tell you how they tell that story in Texas. --FredBaldwin 00:42, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Fred, That sounds like a great project, and I wish you luck with it! I never thought that "Maverick" would become a national thing -- copycats! Maverick
Maverick -- While looking at your FOIA links for Pennsylvania, I added an external link and signed the addition. I suppose you'll be notified automatically of that. (Please advise on good manners relating to when and how to sign fairly minor add-ons.) And as a newbie I'm not sure yet when to "edit" like this and when to "comment."--FredBaldwin 01:10, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
- I did notice that you added a link on the PA page, thank you. You generally don't need to sign your edits since that information is automatically saved in the "history" of each page. The exception to that is pages like this which people use to have conversations. Then if you don't sign it can get confusing :) Have fun wiki-ing. Maverick 14:58, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
Fred,
I went on the Pennsylvania public school, salary page and added the chart so you could see an example. Also I remember that for future "definition" articles you could create a listing on the Sunshine Review:Glossary. Let me know if you have any questions. Kristinpedia 22:41, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
Fred-just an fyi we don't normally reference Sunshine Review article. Typically we just use internal links like the following: Pennsylvania school board-union negotiations and the media. Kristinpedia 16:08, 8 December 2008 (CST)
Fred I loved your additions to the checkbook register article! Kristinpedia 11:09, 6 February 2009 (CST)
