W.C. Gentry is a member of the Duval County Public School Board, representing District 3. He is serving in his first term, which expires in 2012.

Gentry and his wife, Susan, are graduates of Duval County schools. Gentry taught and coached at high schools in Jacksonville.
He entered law school and received his Juris Doctorate magna cum laude from the University of Florida College of Law in 1971. For over three decades, Gentry worked as a lawyer. In 2002, he was appointed to the State of Florida Council on Education Policy, Research and Improvement (CEPRI) in 2002. He served as Chair from 2004-05.
From 2004 to 2007, Gentry served as pro bono counsel to the Senate in cases pertaining to education under the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP).
Gentry now serves on the Boards of the Early Learning Coalition of Duval and The Alliance for World Class Education. He is a founding Director and Chair of the Schultz Center for Teaching and Leadership. He has served as pro bono counsel to the Duval County School Board and the Florida School Boards Association in the past.
In December 2007, he was appointed by the Mayor of Jacksonville to Chair the Education Subcommittee of the "Jacksonville Journey" to deal with crime and community issues.
Town & Country Magazine named him one of America’s leading trial lawyers in its “Guide to the Best Lawyers in America.” Woodward-White also gave him high praise in its The Best Lawyers in America 1986-2007. He has been profiled by Florida Trend Magazine as one of Florida’s “Top Trial Lawyers”. He has served as an adjunct professor, University of Florida College of Law, and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees, University of Florida College of Law from 2005 to 2007.[1]
