The Yankee Institute for Public Policy, a 501(c)(3), is a non-profit free-market think tank in Connecticut. It was founded in 1984 by Bernard Zimmern, a French entrepreneur.[1] Their stated vision is "to make Connecticut a better place to live, work, and raise a family."[2]

The Institute conducts research in the areas of taxes and budget, school reform, and social services.
[edit] Tax and budget
Tax and Budget Policy conducts research on fiscal policy in Connecticut, advocating lower taxes and reduced government spending.
Headed by D. Dowd Muska, their most recent publications include How to Reduce Property Taxes with a Citizen's Audit Committee and The Coming Showdown with Public Labor.

The Yankee Institute promotes free market approaches to education reform. Their website provides a calculator allowing citizens to determine potential savings through online courses, early graduation, private education, and home schooling.
Recent publications include Ending Corruption and Waste in Your Public School and Free College for High School Students.

Over 26% of the state budget, the Institute notes, goes to social services, and yet most citizens know little to nothing about how that is spent.[3] To that end, they conduct research in the field to provide info to residents and also advocate for more a more efficient and effective system.
Recent publications include Three Cures for What's Ailing Long Term Health Care and HELP WANTED:Serving Connecticut’s Neediest Citizens through Job Training.
