Eddie Price serves as the mayor of Mandeville County, which is part of Orleans Parish in Louisiana.

Controversies while in office

Controversy surrounded a charitable fund that was collected from local residents for the purpose of purchasing toys for needy children, which was instead used to purchase gifts for the mayor and other city officials.

Mayor Price received press coverage for driving into a Causeway tollbooth barrier, apparently while intoxicated. Four police officers resigned or were fired after the incident. As a result of the incident, Mayor Price enrolled in a 13-step alcohol abuse program in July 2008.

A 2007-2008 State Auditor's report revealed gross abuse of taxpayer dollars, including using city dollars to pay for a Mexican vacation and numerous personal expenses. The audit also cited Price's acceptance of trips paid for by corporations with contracts with the city, which may be a violation of state ethics law. [1]

In an October 23, 2008 editorial, the Times-Picayne urged the New Orleans city council to delay returning Price's access to a city-owned vehicle, citing the fact that he accepted a low-rate lease from Don McMath, a developer that does business with the city. "Rafael Goyeneche, president of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, says that he'll ask the state ethics board to investigate the leasing arrangement, which means that Mandeville may well be facing yet another probe. Taking favors from Mr. McMath is a habit that Mayor Price seems to find hard to break. Maybe he needs to find a 12-step program for ethics."[2]
