Former NYPD commissioner Kerik indicted
From Sunshine Review
June 17, 2009 Former New York Police Department commissioner Bernard Kerik was indicted today on the grounds of making false statements to White House officials reviewing him for the seat as the Department of Homeland Security secretary in 2004.[1]
[edit] False statements
Kerik allegedly lied to the Bush administration about circumstances with contractors he worked with for a renovation of his home and prosecutors accuse him of receiving and concealing about $255,000 in renovations from contractors interested in doing business with the city of New York.
Kerik's lawyer is confident that his client will be vindicated from the charges.
[edit] History in public eye
Similar charges were brought upon Kerik in December, to which he pleaded not guilty. Those charges were dropped because they allegedly occurred in Washington.
Bush nominated Kerik to the secretary position in the Homeland Security department in 2004, but the former commissioner withdrew after allegations about a nanny with questionable immigration status whom he hired.
Kerik served as NYPD commissioner from 1998 to 2002.
