Sheriff Rob Gordon in Washington County, Oregon disagrees with a recent court order in Jackson County that the lists of concealed carry handgun permit holders must be disclosed to the public upon request. In response, Gordon is issuing a notice to the approximately 10,000 concealed carry permit holders in Washington County informing them that he is refusing to disclose their information. [1]

Sheriff John Trumbo of Umatilla County has entered the concealed carry fray as well, saying "the statute said if you were getting it for personal defense, you don't have to disclose the name and address. Why would a person need one if it were not for personal defense?". He is refusing to comply with the request for names of concealed weapon carry licenses. [2]

The request for records was withdrawn by Matthew Lowe, with the firm of O’Donnell, Clark & Crew, saying “We don’t want to alienate the sheriffs". He explained that the request had been made on behalf of Oregon Gun Owners, (formal name: Oregon State Rifle Association) who were hoping to use the records to assemble a mailing list. [3]
